This winter hydration hair mask treatment will protect and moisturize. It's the easiest way to keep your hair healthy all winter long. All you need is a few drops of sea buckthorn oil and coconut oil. You will want to give the oil time to soak in. So, take a few hours to sit at home and do the treatment. Don't try to do it before work in the morning!
Oil masks are no big secret when it comes to hair care- but sea buckthorn oil makes this mask special! Omega 7, found in sea buckthorn berry oil, is best known for its moisturizing abilities. This fatty acid is thought to help restore moisture and function down to a cellular level in our bodies. Sea buckthorn seed oil is another fatty acid enriched oil- with planted based omega 3 that nourishes to support supple hair.
Both kinds of sea buckthorn oil do double duty as a source of fatty acids as well as a source of rich antioxidants. Sea buckthorn is considered a super fruit because of its dynamic list of nutrients. In its natural habitat, the sea buckthorn plant has had to survive thousands of years in high altitude, low moisture environments. The plant has evolved to survive using its rich supply of fatty acids, nutrients and vitamins. The combination of the antioxidants and fatty acids make for the best kind of hair-food that nature has to offer!
Coconut oil serves two purposes in this mask. First of all, coconut oil is the perfect carrier for sea buckthorn oils. You only need a few drops of sea buckthorn oil to get all of its benefits- but it's much easier to distribute through your hair with this (much more affordable) carrier oil.
Due to its fatty acid content- coconut oil will add some needed nutrition to your dry hair. The lipid content of coconut oil mimics the natural composition of the oils in our hair. It actually penetrates the hair shaft better than many other oils because of this fact. Therefore, using coconut oil will help get the rich nutrients from sea buckthorn oil deep into your hair shaft!
1 Tbsp Coconut Oil- Everyone's hair is different! So if you have long locks, start by adding one more tbsp of oil.
1-2 drops SeabuckWonders Seed Oil
1-2 drops SeabuckWonders Berry Oil
Put coconut oil in a small bowl and microwave it for 6 seconds.
Once the coconut oil has melted, add the sea buckthorn oils and blend with a spoon or chopstick. Once mixed, work into ends of hair.
Don’t heat the sea buckthorn oils! It’s okay to add them to warmed coconut oil.
Pro-tip: You can warm the oils right into your hand. The coconut oil will melt if you rub your hands together and start working it into your hair. You can rub the excess oil into your cuticles, nail bed, slather on your neck or any other part that needs a little TLC. Your skin will say thank you. Put that oil to use!
Leave the oil in hair for as long as you please.
You will want to leave this mask in your hair for as long as possible. Leave the mask in for 30-45 minutes at a minimum.
Optional: To get the moisture deep into your hair shaft, use a blow dryer on your oiled ends. You will notice that the oil will absorb into your hair- which is a good sign!
Don’t use a flat iron or curling iron for this. The direct heat could cause damage.
Wash hair as usual- this step is important!
Shampoo the oil out of your hair- if you don't, it will be oily! Any oil that isn't absorbed will sit on your hair shaft. At this point, the hair mask has gotten as deep into your hair shaft as possible.
You can follow up with your normal conditioner as well depending on your hair type. Finer or smoother hair types may not need to condition after the treatment. Drier or courser hair types may still want to condition afterward.
